A Table for Two / 두 사람을 위한 식탁
In 2008, when she turned thirteen, Chaeyoung rapidly lost more than 20 kilograms of weight and was admitted to a closed ward of a psychiatric hospital. Her mother Sangok thought her daughter would recover after treatment, but Chaeyoung’s anorexia turned into bulimia. As Chaeyoung continued to eat and vomit for more than 10 years, she and her mother stopped addressing the issue altogether. In 2019, Chaeyoung leaves behind her goal of full recovery and travels to Australia in search of a new life. After Chaeyoung departs, Sangok, alone in her home, tries to find the cause of her daughter’s symptoms in her own past, which she still cannot comprehend. In 2020, Chaeyoung returns from Australia because of the COVID-19 outbreak, and Chaeyoung and Sangok finally begin to talk about the “disease” they have kept silent about for more than ten years.

2. Spoken word / 구어
‘Gu-eo’ refers to words (eo) that are spoken through mouths (gu) and heard with ears. Such spoken words, delivered through a physical body, makes it possible to capture and convey one’s innermost feelings. As powerful as it has the potential to be, ‘gu-eo’ can also be feeble and volatile. This short film combined the images of a loved one with the fragility and easily damageable nature of film. A grandmother’s wrinkled eyes and lips. Her arched back and silhouette. Familiar footsteps. Doors wide open and doors closed shut. Recorded images and breath-like words emanating from them pile up one by one as time passes erratically by. It’s only in a space where neither spoken word nor written word is left, that other words finally come to light.

Seongryong, a choreographer, spends the night in Itaewon as a tourist after a dance performance in a bunker-like performance hall. Each character wanders through the city at night in their own ways, and the documentary ends only when each of them goes to sleep in bed.
